Chapter: 1795
Alick frowned, puzzled. "What are you talking about? How could she not want to see me?"
Camila avoided meeting Alick's gaze and responded, "She just doesn't want to see you."
Alick, perceptive as ever, probed, “Is the baby...gone? It's alright. Tell me what happened. I can handle it. She must be devastated, isn't she? Let me offer her some comfort."
Although he felt sorrowful, Alick masked it and tried his best to stay composed.
“Please, go back for now," Camila urged.
Annis wouldn't refuse to see Alick if she merely lost the baby.
Sensing that something was amiss, Alick fixed his gaze on Camila and pressed, “Tell me the truth. What happened?"
Camila turned her head away and whispered, “I've already told you not to ask about it..."
Alick reached out and gently held her arm, feeling uneasy inside.
Yet, he tried to keep his voice steady.
“Please, tell me."
His voice was soft but firm.
Tears brimmed in Camila's eyes as she shut them, murmuring, “You probably have some idea, right?"
Alick let go of her arm. He had found Annis earlier, disheveled and sprawled in the grass near the car.
"So, please, let's not talk about it." Camila's mood was heavy too.
Struggling to stay composed, she said softly, "I'll stay with her the whole time. Since she doesn't want to see you now, it's better if you don't come looking for her. I'm worried it might upset her more."
Alick opened his mouth, but words failed him.
He felt a deep sadness.
Seeing his sorrow, Camila's heart ached as well.
“I'll look after her. She shouldn't be alone."
