Chapter: 1849
Layla was taken aback.

She clenched her teeth, glaring at Camila. "Why did you hurt Harland? Who do you think you are?"

Camila scowled. "Harland?"

“Yeah! He's my man. Now he's laid up in the hospital with a busted leg. Don't I deserve some answers?"

Camila hadn't seen that coming. She was Harland's fiancée?!

She shot back calmly, "If he's hurt, it's on him. Why would I target him and not others?"

Before Layla could reply, she added, “If that's all, kindly Leave me to my work."

Layla wanted to step closer but thought better of it when she eyed Eagle. "I've got a question for you. Can you handle it?"

"What is it?" Camila inquired.

"Does Harland have feelings for you?" Layla fixed her gaze on Camila and inquired.

Camila furrowed her brow and replied, "You're overthinking it..."

"I'm not overthinking. He fled from his wedding and came to Azmar. I've looked into all the women he's been in contact with, and you're the only one." Layla pressed on, her true motive not solely about Harland's condition.

Her underlying intention was to find out the connection between Camila and Harland.

Camila's eyes flickered with unease. If she didn't set the record straight, misunderstandings could ensue.

"Firstly, I wasn't aware he returned under such circumstances. We were merely neighbors before; that's how we met. After he moved abroad, we lost touch entirely. You can verify this. Our meeting wasn't orchestrated by him seeking me out but rather because I required plastic surgery, and he happened to be the surgeon, hence our encounters."

Indeed, Layla hadn't uncovered any prior interaction between them.

“Why did you hit him then?" she prodded.

Camila retorted, "Because he's insufferable."

"That's all?" Layla found it hard to believe.

"Yes, that's all. Harland and I aren't even friends, so please don't entertain notions of any romantic involvement. I'm married. The man accompanying me earlier is my husband.”
