Chapter: 2071
Alick acknowledged the request. "I'll retrieve it now," he said, turning to leave and attend to the task at hand.
Isaac caught a glimpse of Camila.
Her silence was unusual given the situation, and concern flickered across his face.
Approaching her, he inquired gently, "Mila, is everything alright with you?"
Startled from her reverie, Camila looked up. “What's wrong?" she asked, confusion lacing her words.
Isaac studied her, sensing something amiss.
"You seem distant. What's on your mind?" Reaching out, he felt her forehead. "Are you feeling ill?"
Camila shook her head, dismissing the concern with a wave. "I'm alright."
But her smile didn't quite reach her eyes as she grasped his hand.
“Why that look? Is something bothering you?"
Isaac's voice carried a note of seriousness. "You've been off today. What is it?"
Camila remained stoic. “Nothing," she insisted, though her composed facade did little to reassure him.
Isaac pressed, needing to understand, “What's really going on?"
Her smile was bittersweet as she brushed off his worries. "I'm fine. Haven't you always been the one to know me best? Once all this is settled, I plan to step down."
He responded softly, “It might be for the best."
Camila leaned into him, her question laced with vulnerability. "Isaac, would you hold any mistakes against me?"
The question left Isaac momentarily lost for words.
A troubling sense was washing over him, suggesting not all was well with Camila.
Her inquiry was unusual, signaling that deeper currents were at play.
“Explain the mistakes you're referring to." Isaac's tone was measured yet insistent.
