Chapter: 2124
After stepping out of the operating room, Camila was immediately approached by the patient's family. They were visibly shaken and hesitated to ask questions, perhaps fearing bad news. The parents were just over 40 but had already developed grey hair, likely due to the stress of their child's illness.
Camila reassured them, "The operation was very successful. He has been moved to the ICU. As long as he can surpass the critical first 24 hours and there are no complications going forward, he should be fine."
"Really?" The patient's parents grasped Camila's hands excitedly.
“Thank you."
“You're welcome," Camila responded. She made arrangements for the family to visit the patient, although they could only view him through a glass window. Seeing him, even from a distance, brought them a measure of comfort.
Once the surgery was complete, Camila exited the hospital, with Hyman following closely behind.
"We're so grateful for your help this time. It's been tough on you,"
Hyman acknowledged.
“I was just carrying out my duty," Camila replied.
As a physician, she had met a patient perfectly suited for an artificial heart surgery, one who had a real chance at life afterward.
If there had been any viable alternative, who would willingly embrace such risk?
She recognized the family's desperate decision as their last resort and felt compelled to help. To her, it wasn't a burden.
Hyman gazed into her eyes intently. Despite the setback with Kameron's incident, she preserved her original intent. His respect for her grew. Not everyone could continue to push forward after facing such significant trials.
“I'm not returning to the research institute," Camila declared.
Hyman nodded. "Okay."
Camila then visited Glenda and found her in high spirits, thanks to a diligent nursing assistant.
After her visit, Camila hurried back and was surprised to see Annis still there. "You haven't left?" she asked. Annis explained that she had extended her stay by a day. Now that no one is at home and you're so busy, I think it best to postpone my departure."
Camila smiled appreciatively. “Thank you. It's alright. I'm not returning to the research institute anyway."
“I'll be leaving tomorrow," Annis informed her.
“Would you consider coming back?" Camila inquired.
