"You knew?" she asked in a hushed tone.

"Yeah."

Silence fell.

It was heavy and stretched out.

Neither of them said a word.

It was so still that they could hear each other's heartbeats.

Thump, thump, thump!

After what felt like forever, Camila finally spoke. "Would you be upset?"

“Nope, I wouldn't."

Camila lifted her head.

She tried to see his face.

But it was too dark and he was just a faint silhouette.

“If something like that happens again, tell me," he said.

Isaac stroked her hair and added, “Don't keep it all to yourself."

“Don't you want a daughter?" Camila asked, resting against his chest.

“I've got two boys," he replied. “That's enough."

Camila closed her eyes and nestled deeper into his embrace. "Okay."

If Camila was healthy enough to have another child but didn't want one, maybe Isaac would be a bit disappointed that he'd never have a daughter.

But her health was deteriorating.

This time, it wasn't something she could bounce back from.
