Chapter: 2529
His own anxieties resurfaced; he hoped for no repeat of past troubles.
Isaac shot him a pointed glance, silently reprimanding Forrest's negative outlook.
"If you don't speak of it, nothing will transpire," he countered, leaving Forrest momentarily speechless.
As they reached the door, they found a boy standing outside.
While Isaac was unfamiliar with him, Forrest recognized him immediately. "Brewster," he identified.
Isaac pieced together the situation, with Forrest elaborating, “He's the son of your rescuers, saved by Alick."
Brewster handed an envelope to Forrest, who accepted it with confusion evident in his expression.
"What's this?" Forrest inquired.
As Brewster remained silent, Forrest unfolded the letter, revealing its ominous contents.
It was clearly a threat from the same individuals who had caught him.
Frowning, Forrest passed the letter to Isaac, whose expression remained unchanged as he perused its contents. Addressing Brewster directly, Isaac assured, “I can ensure your safety.”
But Brewster's gaze bore into Isaac's, his question heavy with implication, "Did my parents die because of saving you?"
Isaac's response was measured. “Not entirely," he admitted.
From the outset, their lives had been in jeopardy, a fact Brewster likely understood.
But in fact, Isaac knew that he did bear some responsibility for Brewster's parents' demise, which was why he felt compelled to protect the boy.
Brewster's laughter cut through the tension. "You owe my parents two lives, yet all you offer in return is protection for me?" he retorted, his dissatisfaction evident.
Isaac arched an eyebrow, taken aback by Brewster's audacity.
“What do you want?" he demanded, his patience waning.
“I want money," Brewster declared bluntly, catching Isaac off guard.
Before Isaac could respond, Brewster continued, “I know you're wealthy."
