Chapter: 1229
“Miss Maria, seeing as you have some talent, just stand by my side."
Doris tried her best to keep her emotions aside and speak coldly, but one could still hear her voice tremble.
“Excuse me, Doris. I have a question, please."
Bill stepped up and said before Doris could call up the next contestant.
Doris looked at him with a frown. Bill was too old to take the talent test. So what did he want?
It was only thanks to his daughter, Vivian that he could return to the clan. Since Vivian was eligible to take the talent test, she decided to bring her father, Bill along.
Doris' first instinct was to snap at Bill and tell him off, but after thinking of how the man always fawned on her in the past, she reluctantly gave him the leeway to talk.
“Yes? What's your question?"
Bill eagerly thanked her for letting him talk, and then asked, “What do you think of Maria’s performance just now? Is she very talented? Or are they all equal since the Oracle Stone lit up for all of them? The brightness of the Light doesn't represent one’s level, does it? Only the data analysis that will be done can determine that, right?"
Bill seemed to have spoken the minds of almost everyone there.
Most of them were not close to Maria. In fact, they were unkind to her when the convoy set out by refusing to share a ride with her.
So naturally, they were all a little nervous after the dazzling Light that came out when Maria touched the Oracle Stone.
If she had a great talent and would get better than them in the future as they suspected, would she get back at them?
They really hoped they were wrong. They hoped that she was just as talented as all of them, with no advantage to get better.
“You're right. We can only know her grade after the data analysis,” Doris said the words Bill so desperately wanted to hear.
Bill's shoulders sagged in relief. It wasn't as he had feared. The brightness of the stone meant nothing at all.
“Thank you, Doris." Bill bowed to her with a flattering smile on his face.
Everyone was relieved after what Doris said, but little did they know that Doris didn't mean her words.
She knew in her heart that Maria was no ordinary talent.
Twenty minutes later, every eligible person had taken the test.
At the end of it, the Oracle Stone only Lit up for ten people. The rest who didn't have the talent were sent back to their hometown.
"Cyril, get someone to drive them back," Doris ordered without any care.
The candidates begged and begged for some consideration, but Doris didn't even spare them a single glance.
On their way here earlier, a good number of them had made friends. Sadly, only a few of them succeeded the test, while a larger number failed.
