Chapter: 1611
Moreover, his acting on coughing was a bit exaggerated and far from convincing.
Then, Michael asked Maria, “Anthony isn't here. Would you like to see him? I can call him to come back. How does that sound?"
Jaxon's expression contorted slightly.
Marilyn found herself at a loss for words.
Raymond didn't quite recognize his own father and mumbled, “Dad...
Didn't you just mention Anthony is occupied and you didn't want to interrupt his work?"
“What? Did I say that?" Michael seemed to recollect, and moments later, he playfully smacked the armrest of his rocking chair in a mock display of frustration.
“Raymond, you brat! I entrusted you with the family business, but what have you been up to all this time? Why aren't you tied up with your work at the moment? Instead, you've been hanging around me all day. Are you fed up with being the acting head of the family? I believe it would be more fitting to have Anthony step in!"
Raymond was so taken aback and nearly stumbled! "Oh, no, please don't be mad! I'll give Anthony a call right away and ask him to come back right now."
At this moment, Maria declined, "There's no need for that." Maria was aware of how occupied Anthony had been lately and tried to avoid bothering him as much as possible.
Maria bent down to whisper to Michael, “Anthony is occupied right now.
We shouldn't disturb him. I'll visit him myself after I finish your checkup."
Michael, pleased to know Anthony and Maria got on well, had nothing further to add.
He nodded enthusiastically, a broad smile on his face.
“Dad, shall we go now?" Marilyn felt a tad awkward, recognizing her initial confidence was misplaced. She was prepared to back off and refrain from embarrassing herself.
However, Jaxon seemed more resolute than ever. He gave a chilly smile and whispered to Marilyn, “Don't worry. I've heard of this woman before. She's just an actress in the entertainment industry. What medical knowledge could she possibly possess? The last time she revived Michael, it was probably just a fluke after obtaining some kind of special foreign medicine."
Marilyn's eyes sparkled when she heard this.
She felt her dad's words made sense. Could it be that Maria had access to the right medication but lacked genuine medical knowledge?
Wouldn't this mean that Maria's true capabilities could be easily exposed?
Chances were Maria pretended to be a healer even though she didn't have any medical knowledge.
If their speculation was spot on and the truth was exposed, Michael would likely be hesitant to let Maria handle his medical treatment again.
With these thoughts in mind, Marilyn offered a sweet smile and said, "Miss Jenkins, we'd like to see you run the checkup for Michael. As healthcare professionals, my father and I would like to observe and lend a hand. It's all for the sake of Michael's health, and we hope you're okay with that."
Marilyn's words didn't sit well with Michael, and he was feeling a bit sour even before Maria had a chance to weigh in.
Michael had been dealing with the business world for years. Seeing through Marilyn's ploys would be a piece of cake to him.
