Chapter: 498
Sitting at the table, Jessica kept a piece of French fries between her teeth, as if she was smoking.
“How are you getting along with your daughter?" she asked.
Thinking that Jessica was asking her about Vivian, Julie tensed and answered, “We... We just had an argument. We are not getting along well.”
"What?!" Jessica asked in a raised voice, pounding her fist on the table.
For a moment, the shop clerk was even worried that Jessica was going to hit Julie.
“Maria is such a nice girl. Why are you bullying her?”
Julie was stunned.
She hastily explained, "No! I thought you were talking about Vivian... My other daughter."
“Why would I ask about her?"
Jessica gave Julie an incredulous Look before rolling her eyes.
"You know, I feel like you've been losing more and more brain cells ever since you married that Jenkins man. The medical genius I knew back then-"
“Okay, okay," Julie interrupted her, forcing a smile.
“Maria and I are on good terms. Don't worry. I know she is a nice girl."
Julie always thought it was a pity that out of her two adopted daughters, Maria was the one that she hadn't raised since she was a child.
“That's good."
Jessica nodded with satisfaction.
She gulped down the chicken wings with one hand and swirled her milk tea with the other.
Watching the way Jessica ate, Julie couldn't help but think of the way barbarians would eat raw meat.
“Have you ever visited the Smith family in the Last 2@ years?" Jessica asked suddenly, pausing in the middle of eating.
Julie shook her head, and her face darkened.
