Chapter: 499
With a sneer, Jessica shoved the last piece of French fries into her mouth.
"You have two grown daughters now. Shouldn't you take them to see the old man? A month ago, I was invited to Broome to examine your father's health. He is not in a good condition.”
Her words were like a hammer hitting Julie‘s heart.
“He... He's sick?" Julie's mouth went dry, and she had to struggle to stay calm.
“Not in that way. It should be easy for a rich family like the Smith family to take care of an old man," Jessica said, smirking slightly.
“But your father is getting old. He is suffering organ failure. Do you understand? If he had a disease, he could be treated by a doctor, but organ failure is irreversible. We only have medical skills, not magic powers."
Julie remained silent as she tried to comprehend all this new information.
This was the worst news she could have received. Organ failure meant that a person was reaching the end of their life. It was absolutely irreparable.
Julie clenched her fists so hard under the table that her veins bulged out.
“He... How much time does he have?"
Julie's voice trembled with a complex mix of emotions. On one hand, she was upset and even scared to hear about her father's condition. On the other, she was dissatisfied with Boden.
How could her nephew hide such an important thing from her?
Unless... he didn't know either?
But why would her father hide his condition from Boden? And more importantly, why hadn't he said anything to her?
Now that he was nearing the end of his Life, shouldn't he resolve his conflict with her?
“How much time he has left actually depends on himself. If he is relaxed and not under stress, he might survive for another year. But if not... he only has a few months.”
Julie's hands trembled, and her drink was suddenly spilled all over the table.
It was still almost full since she didn't like sugary drinks at this point in her age.
She only took a sip, and didn't touch the cup again. Now it was all spilled out from the shock she obtained from the news.
On the other hand, it seemed that Jessica had really quick reflexes. She dodged the accident with ease. Not a single drop of the drink splashed on her clothes.
